Seeing is believing and Wisconsin corn growers have a unique opportunity to see exactly how precision nitrogen applications and different tillage methods impact crop production at a special program, sponsored by the Wisconsin Corn Growers Association (WCGA).
Designed as a hands-on learning event, Wisconsin Corn University runs from 8:30 a.m-2:30 p.m., Aug. 5, at the University of Wisconsin Arlington Research farm.
Special appearances by Farm Journal columnist John Phipps and Market Advisor Mike North of First Capitol Ag highlight the classroom sessions of this new event.
Wisconsin Corn University includes field demonstrations on nitrogen sensing, nitrification inhibitors, cover crops and tillage practices.
A soil pit in the University's long-term tillage study offers corn growers a unique chance to visually compare and discuss the impact of growing corn in reduced tillage.
Instructors for Wisconsin Corn University include Wisconsin Corn Specialist Joe Lauer and Soil Scientists Francisco Arriaga, Carrie Laboski, and Matt Ruark.
Classroom presentations on new ways to treat corn stover and a session on changes in grain moisture testing also are offered.
Free attendance to this event is available to any WCGA member who enrolls a new member in the association, otherwise registration is $20 for members and $60 for non-members.
Lunch and an afternoon reception are included and advance registration is highly recommended due to limited space at the facility. The first 100 people to register will get a free commemorative Wisconsin Corn University cap.
